10% for All launched!

The 10% for All Campaign was launched on May 23, 2025 with an inspiring virtual event that brought together over eighty participants from thirty countries, united by a common goal: to demand that governments reallocate at least 10% of global military spending to fund social, environmental, and peace-building initiatives.

The event featured speakers from our partner organizations who highlighted the urgent need to reprioritize public budgets in favor of care, climate justice, and demilitarization.

Highlights

The event began with a compelling presentation that situated the 10% Campaign within its historical and political context, laying the groundwork for the urgent call to redirect military spending toward human and ecological needs.

This was followed by a panel featuring campaign partners from Colombia, Costa Rica, Yemen, Pakistan, Germany, and the United States. Each speaker offered critical insights into how militarism intersects with key global issues.

Climate

Adrian and Patrick highlighed the stark contrast between record-high military spending and the lack of climate action. They drew clear links between war, militarism, and global heating, sharing concrete examples of localized climate impacts. Their remarks emphasized how militarism diverts resources away from frontline communities facing the brunt of the climate crisis.

Borders and Migration

Aïda and Raza addressed the militarization of borders and its connection to climate-induced displacement. Using illustrations, they argued that borders have become tools of carceral and militarized logic. Instead of reinforcing these systems, they advocated for investing in food security, diplomacy, and the autonomy of borderland populations. Raza spoke specifically about the India-Pakistan border, one of the most militarised borders in the world.

Financial System and Aid

Mike and Khulood presented a data-driven analysis showing how military and security-driven aid consistently outweighs funding for humanitarian and development needs. They highlighted a global trend away from development aid and underscored that investing in human needs is key to long-term stability, whereas military aid often acts as a destabilizing force. The 10% Campaign was presented as a necessary intervention to reverse this trend.

Authoritarianism and Anti-Feminism

Andrea explored how militarism underpins authoritarian and anti-feminist systems. She emphasized that militarism thrives on dehumanization and binary thinking, erasing complexity and diversity. Right-wing governments often exalt state armed forces, which, rather than protecting women, frequently violate their rights. Drawing on examples from Colombia, she argued for redistribution as a form of reparative justice, redirecting military budgets toward unpaid care work and social services, as illustrated by the disparities in Colombia’s budget allocations.

The Call

A key moment of the event was the official unveiling of the 10% Campaign Call anda collective invitation to reimagine what true security means in today’s world. The Call urges governments to redirect at least 10% of their military budgets toward addressing the real needs of people and the planet.

Rooted in principles of justice, equity, and sustainability, the Campaign Call emphasizes the urgency of investing in social protection, climate action, care work, education, and community-based alternatives to violence. It challenges the prevailing notion that security must be based on weapons, borders, and force, and instead promotes a vision grounded in cooperation, solidarity, and the dignity of all.

This moment allowed to transform shared frustration and analysis into a concrete demand and an actionable framework for organizing. The unveiling was met with enthusiasm and commitment from participants, who recognized it as both a political tool and a moral imperative for building a safer, more just future.
